We usually post about our California adventures, but today, as I look at my beautiful Boxer girl who has Degenerative Myelopathy and no longer has strong use of her legs, I am reminiscing about our adventures and her running free. We actually started Sipped in California because of Stella. She was the reason we sought out “Dog Friendly” places. The Carmel Beach dog, the “cleaner upper” of crackers on a tasting room floor, the wiggly greeter at many a fun brewery, and the all around great co-pilot!
This trip, was planned for a few reasons, a fun adventure with Stella, a chance to drive the Washington and Oregon wine country, and a time for Kevin and I to decide whether we were going to keep trying for a little bundle of joy after many disappointing and sad experiences.
We set off from Sacramento to our first stop – Dog-Friendly Portland Oregon
Whew! After a long drive through California to Portland Oregon…we made it safe and sound at Hotel Monaco.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the friendliest staff we have ever encountered! We were delighted to see the large “dog shaped” chalk board with “Welcome Stella” printed in colorful chalk at the entrance of the Hotel. We’re here!
As we checked in I over heard the front desk clerk say they were sold out for the weekend. No doubt, the place is great!
As Kevin took Stella for her post drive potty break, I checked in and was taken to our room. WOW! We were upgraded! Thank you Kimpton Loyalty Program! Beautiful Room! Stella had a basket with a Zanies stuffed toy, dog cookie, dog mags, bowl, and wonderful doggie bed all ready for her arrival. The cookie, quickly eaten..by Stella :-), and the toy was initiated with frivolity and slobber. The “Welcome” doggy basket by-the-way, goes to every room where a dog is checked in. Nice! We also received a nice one-sheet on pet friendly dining in the area, dog parks, shopping, etc.
After freshening up and a cold beer at Rogue Distillery & Public House, we went for a walk to find THE BEST POSSIBLE POTTY SPOT. Stella found the place she liked, got business done! Happy Dog = Happy Dog Owners!
Tomorrow we are up early for our drive to Anacortes to catch the ferry to Lopez Island where we will spend the weekend with my Mom & Step Dad John taking in the beauty of the San Juan Islands…and a Mac & Jack or two!
Stay tuned for Lopez Island Life…
