It’s the middle of Winter and I feel like we’re going to lose ourselves in the fog and cold here in Sacramento! It’s cold, it’s wet, it’s windy, and all I want to do is hunker down in front of a fire and sip a Big, Bold Red Wine to chase the Winter chills away! You know, the kind that warms your soul and makes your mouth smile.
Nothing chases this chill away like good friends, a tasty meal, and a nice bottle of red!
I love a good California Zinfandel or Cabernet Sauvignon paired with beef bourguignon, slow roasted short ribs with creamy mashed potatoes, or a great steak. Or just simply kick my feet up by the fire and sip away. Certainly takes my mind off buying a large dingy and getting it ready to row upstream to dry land!
Here are four Big Bold California Reds for you to try by your fire tonight:
2016 Dry Creek Vineyard Heritage Vines Zinfandel ($24.00) Delicious and beautifully balanced. This vintage shows enticing aromatics of raspberries, cranberries and a hint of toast and pepper.
2015 Terra D’Oro Zinfandel ($18.00) A savory Zinfandel displaying vibrant aromas of rich, spicy clove and big, generous fruit.
2015 Ridge Vineyards Three Valleys Red ($25.00) 72% Zinfandel, 13% Petite Sirah,10% Carignane, 5% Grenache. Beautiful garnet color. Fresh raspberry and blueberry fruits, clay mineral, exotic oak spice.
2015 Robert Biale “Black Chicken” Napa Valley Zinfandel ($48.00) Dark color, ripe aromatics and juicy acidity. The nose is full of vibrant black cherry, strawberries, crème fresh, dried flowers, brown and black spices and bread pudding. The entry is soft and weighty and gives way to supple round tannins.
