We recently enjoyed a beautiful Sunday afternoon with friends in El Dorado County at “Bring Out The Barrel”.

Each January, the El Dorado Winery Association presents this event which gives attendees the opportunity to taste the areas wines before they are bottled, blended or aged.  The weekend’s activities included food pairings and the opportunity to purchase “futures” of limited quality wines

This wine region, just off Highway 50 east of Placerville, is famous for Apple Hill fruit growers, Christmas tree farms, and one of the most successful wine regions in California.

We began at Holly’s Hill Vineyards tasting their Patriarche components – Mouvedre, Syrah, Grenache, and Counoise from the barrel as well as the 2010 bottled Patriarche.

Our second stop was  Miraflores Winery – which was my favorite of the day – A beautiful location with beautiful Zinfandel and Petit Syrah.  I look forward to tasting these when they are bottled!

Third stop – Single Leaf Vineyards & Winery where their 06 Signature Red danced on all of our tongues. Dark red color, rich, black currant nose with a little pepper, current, fig and chocolate on the palate.
BIG, long finish of chocolate and tobacco.  Blend of 63% Zinfandel, 25% Malbec and 12% Cabernet Sauvignon. This makes it a wonderful everyday wine.

Our last stop of the day was not a participant of the event, but a favorite all the same.  Iverson Vineyards.  Where we enjoyed their 08 Primitivo made from 100% Estate fruit.  It’s deep, rich colors bring out the full fruit flavors.
