The setting:  Celebrating my Husband Kevin’s 50th birthday in the beautiful Gardens & Tasting Room of Georis Winery in Carmel Valley.

What makes Georis wines unique?

Their estate vineyards are located 20 miles inland from the Pacific Coast.
Hot summer days and cool nights bring complexity and concentration to the Estate fruit. Harvest can be as late as the end of October. This
micro-climate is reflected in their Estate wines, wines of complexity,
finesse, and elegance.

The Georis tasting Room is located at 4 Pilot Road and Carmel Valley Road in the village of Carmel Valley, California.
The tasting room offers a true wine tasting experience. There is an authentic garden
setting with a 1930’s adobe house that has an unusual gift shop. We selected the Grand Flight that is a selection of five Georis
wines with a small cheese plate and crostinis.

Our favorites:  2009 Cab Franc.  The bouquet of this Cabernet Franc is highlighted by truffle, lilac,
ripe stone fruit and light tobacco with a touch of vanilla. The mouth
feel is jammy, fruit forward with butterscotch. The finish offers well
balanced tannins of cedar. 250 Cases produced.

2007 Cabernet Sauvignon. This Cabernet Sauvignon is grown in a part of our vineyard where the
soil is a mix of gravel, clay and sand carried out by what was once a
river. This wine is garnet-red in color, rich and robust. The nose is
of vanilla, ripe prune and dark cherry. This Cabernet is still young
but already shows promises of longevity. It is jammy, with a
chocolate, geranium, caramel, light toast lingering finish.
300

Talbott Vineyards is a family owned winery established in 1982 that
grows and specializes in top quality all estate grown Chardonnay and
Pinot Noir grapes from their two renowned vineyards, the small hand-picked
14 acre Diamond T Vineyard in Carmel Valley, and the larger 585 acre
Sleepy Hollow Vineyard located nearby in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Talbott’s
offers an extensive line up of 6 full bodied Chardonnays, as well as 6
delicious Pinot Noirs to choose from. Their wines have received many
accolades and have been served at numerous special events, most notably
on four separate occasions the wines were selected to be poured for
Presidential dinners at the White House.

Hands down, our favorites:

2010 Talbott Diamond T Vineyard Chardonnay.  Burgundian style Chardonnay produced from Corton-Charlemagne
Chardonnay clone grapes personally planted by Robert Talbott in 1982.
Hand picked from Robb’s small 14 acre Diamond T Vineyard in Carmel
Valley CA producing only 300 cases.  Grown at 1,200 ft elevation on a
mountain top, the chalky shale soil and cool climate results in low crop
yields producing grapes with concentrated flavors and lively
minerality. Aged in all French Oak barrels.  Inviting notes of Pippin
apple, vanilla bean & lemon.

2010 Logan Pinot Noir.   Crafted using carefully selected all Estate Grown grapes from
our Sleepy Hollow Vineyard. This wine combines fruit from both mature
vines and youthful elite Pommard and Dijon clone vines, to create a lush
medium bodied Pinot Noir with flavors of ripe cherry and blueberry
.
