Ahhhh…the kids fell asleep in the car on our way back from Second Wind Kites and Wild Flour Bakery & Gardens so we got to have a little “grown-up” time. Yay! We stopped in to Sonoma Coast Vineyards Tasting Room located on Highway 1 in Bodega Bay. This location used to be a Caldwell Banker location and we have been watching it under go construction for the past few visits…and now, Voila! A beautiful tasting room pouring exceptional wines over looking the bay.
SCV (Sonoma Coast Vineyards) works with a small family group of vineyards. Partnering with Antonio mountain Vineyard, Balistreri Family Vineyard, Petersen Vineyard, Bella Sonoma Vineyard, and Laguna Vista Vineyard, together they produce lovely, quality wines grown in extreme conditions on the Sonoma Coast. Note:The extreme Sonoma Coast is referred to as “West County,” and is approximately from Jenner where the Russian River pours into the Ocean, to Annapolis, and from the beaches about 6 miles inland, including Ft. Ross, Occidental, western Sebastopol and Freestone.
With a beautiful tasting line up it was hard to find an absolute favorite. We were partial to the 2013 SVC Sauvignon Blanc, Laguna Vista Vineyards. Fermented in re-toasted oak this Sauvignon Blanc is bright with citrus fruit from the start and finishes rich with fig and pineapple. A perfect summer wine in my book! We also enjoyed the SVC Pinot Noir Bodega Ridge Block. Dark and rich, this Pinot Noir boast plum and beautiful spice. It is silky and elegant with wonderful aromatics!
Wondering about the cute Pig & Pinot photo above? The 2006 SVC Petersen Vineyard won Charlie Palmer’s Pigs & Pinot 2008 Pinot Cup. An honor along with probably the best trophy I have ever seen! I was excited to find Pigs & Pinot is a wonderful event benefiting a charity that is near and dear to our hearts – Share Our Strength, where guests sample 60 highly-acclaimed Pinot Noir wines competing in the Pinot Cup competition, both from Sonoma County and around the world. Hosted by Chef Palmer and features Master Sommeliers and international celebrity chefs who showcase some of the world’s greatest Pinots Noirs with tasty pork pairings.
Whether you are just passing through, or spending the weekend in Bodega Bay, please stop in and say hello. You’ll love Pigs, Pinot, and a whole lot more, at Sonoma Coast Vineyard’s!
