On Saturday we embarked on a new journey, the inaugural Taste of Yolo festival at Central Park in Davis, California.  The event was organized by our friends at Visit Yolo, and brought together Yolo County’s farms, wineries, breweries and restaurants.  Taste of Yolo is a tour of Yolo County with sections representing Davis, Woodland, West Sacramento, Clarksburg, and Capay Valley.  The event also included live celebrity chef cooking demos ( Chef Fred Reyes of Buckhorn Steakhouse, Chef Patrick Mulvaney of Mulvaney’s B&L, and Chef Ryan Scott of the  syndicated Radio show “Cooking with Ryan”, showcasing products from local farms.  Attendees could also learn canning, pickling, all about olive oil, and making the perfect Spring bouquet with the hosted DIY classes right there in the park.

We enjoyed a variety of fresh farm to fork salads, Hot Italian Pizza, some tasty wines, and found a brewery we have not visited until this event, Three Mile Brewing.  Three Mile Brewing is located on G Street in the heart of Davis, and was pouring a delightful Hibiscus Honey Blond.  The hibiscus flower and local honey come together to make this fun and tasty pink ale.

A favorite that stood out was ice cream from The Good Scoop.

Knocking our socks off…even my six year old’s…. was the Geranium ice cream!

The Good Scoop ice cream is handcrafted in small batches and made with only the purest organic ingredients. No emulsifiers or stabilizers added! These eye catching and tasty flavors come together by working with local farms for dairy, seasonal fruit, and fresh herbs and spices.  This is a must visit ice cream shop for a truly delicious and fun experience!

The one thing we felt was missing was more local brewery representation.  With so many great breweries in Yolo County, it would have been nice to see them at this fun event.  Maybe next year?
